INDEPENDENCE DAY / COLONIAL FLAG PROJECT – PART 3

July 8th, 2016

Part III:

Our Colonial flag project has finally come to completion.  We finished painting the stripes and the circle of stars, but we wanted to achieve an antiqued look to the flag.  So when the paint was thoroughly dry, we used some fine grit sand paper to lightly sand the surface of our flag.  Then a layer of medium toned stain was brushed across it and quickly wiped away with a soft cloth.  This gave our flag that rustic, weathered look we were going for.  This was an easy project and it turned out beautiful. If you plan to hang the finished flag outdoors, we suggest applying a weather protectant.

See the below pictures of the last stages, and the completed flag.
