The Importance of Performing the Flex and Look Test
July 23rd, 2014
Patriot Timber Products recommends that you perform the Flex and Look Test to check for any irregularities prior to installing your plywood underlayment.
To begin the Flex and Look Test, stand the plywood underlayment panel vertically with its 4’ edge on the floor and the panel face towards you. If you are installing RevolutionPly® panels, the side without the label will be facing you. If you are installing SurePly® Premium Plywood Underlayment or IronPly® Premium Plywood Underlayment, the fastener “x” pattern will be facing you.
Flex
Grip the top panel edge with your right hand and firmly place your left palm against the face of the panel. Pull down approximately 3” with your right hand while simultaneously pressing forward approximately 3” with your left palm. Hold this position during the inspection process.
Look
With the plywood underlayment panel in this flex position, thoroughly inspect the entire panel surface for irregularities, which will look like “bubbles” or “creases”. In the rare instance you find such an irregularity, do not use the panel and do not use any panel that does not appear sound.
Set aside any irregular plywood underlayment panels and contact Patriot Timber Products immediately for a resolution.
