Happy Halloween Part II

October 16th, 2024

In the spirit of Halloween, we’ve been working on a creative yard display, and today, we’re excited to share the next steps in our DIY tombstone project. Using RevolutionPly® plywood, we crafted durable and eye-catching decorations that are perfect for the season.

After priming the plywood, we applied a base coat of gray paint to our cut-out tombstones. To give them an aged, weathered look, we added streaks of black paint and gently smudged the surface with a crumpled paper towel. This simple technique mimics the appearance of weathered marble. When it comes to decorating the tombstones, you can get as creative as you like—we opted to add some humor to ours for a fun twist.

Once the paint had dried completely, we applied a coat of polyurethane spray to protect the pieces from outdoor elements. To ensure the tombstones would stand upright in the yard, we used plywood scraps to create stakes. These were attached to the back of each tombstone using wood glue and secured with clamps, allowing the glue to set overnight.

Check out the results of our Halloween yard display project below—it turned out fantastic and was surprisingly simple to complete! Stay tuned for more creative ideas using Patriot Timber’s range of panel products.
