Happy Earth Day 2015!

April 22nd, 2015

Earth Day marks the anniversary of what many view as the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Founder Gaylord Nelson, a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, was inspired by the importance of raising public awareness and concern for living organisms, the environment, and public health. As a result of Nelson’s vision, on April 22, 1970, twenty million Americans took to the streets in massive coast-to-coast rallies to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment. The common values shared by activists, politicians, farmers, and tycoons led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts. What a great accomplishment!

Today, the fight for a clean environment is still at hand as the increased urgency of the damaging effects of climate change continues. Earth Day renews public commitment and builds community activism around the world as more than a billion people participate in campaigns every year to support environmental programs. The largest public event in the world, Earth Day is celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities.

Earth Day should be recognized year-round! It is our societal responsibility to build a better future by protecting our environment.
